Contaminated Peanut Butter Recalled

Smucker’s peanut butter recalled for Salmonella contamination.

The Ohio-based company says the jars covered in the recall would have been purchased in the last week or so. They have “Best if Used By” dates of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012, plus the production codes 1307004 and 1308004.
Smucker says 3,000 jars are being recalled from stores. Another 16,000 had never left warehouses.
Salmonella is bacteria resulting in fever, cramps and diarrhea that lasts for several days and can require hospitalization.
Smucker says no illnesses have been reported.

Mexican Papayas Source of Salmonella Poisoning

Papayas blocked at the boarder because of salmonella.

As many as 100 people were made ill because of the Mexican papayas.

The Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday the outbreak, which spread to 23 U.S. states, was linked to fresh papayas from nearly all the major papaya-growing regions in Mexico.

Salmonella infection commonly causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps in the first few days after eating a contaminated product.

The infection is the most common U.S. foodborne illness and continues to strike the country as often as it did 15 years ago, linked to contaminated meats, produce and processed foods. Last year it caused nearly 2,300 hospitalizations and 29 deaths. One outbreak led to a recall of nearly half a billion eggs.

More Than 60 Thousand Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled for E.Coli Contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that the National Beef Packing Co. has recalled 60,424 pounds of ground beef products after inspection at an Ohio processing plant revealed potentially dubious signs of contamination by e.coli 0157:H7 bacteria.

The beef was shipped to distributors nationwide for further processing and distribution.

Without more regulation of the food industry and especially factory farms, this will become a much more common occurrence.

Recalls are costly and contamination can often be deadly.

Unbridled by regulation the population continues to be subject to illness and death.

How much longer can we afford to consume without conscience?
